In its June 2020 report, McKinsey & Company highlighted the low productivity rate in construction of less than 1% per year compared to 2.8% for modern economies every year for over two decades. They stated that technical challenges specific to the construction sector made this was among the least digitised (ranked 20th in a league table of 22). In this presentation Malcolm Taylor, Expert Adviser at Digital for Crossrail International will discuss what digitalisation means across the project lifecycle in delivering rail projects. He will cut through the digital hype to show what is being achieved with visualisations and digital technology today on rail projects – both in terms of what can be done but also the key components to how things can be done. He will highlight the need to be data centric and not so application focused, and the challenges of making change happen to deliver the real efficiency and productivity benefits of digitalisation.
