Faced with the imperative to achieve the worldwide objective of net zero carbon emissions by the middle of this century, concerted mitigation efforts including transition to clean energy, reduction of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission, and reducing CO2 in the atmosphere through restoration of the natural environment and engineering carbon capture – all involving the work of civil engineers – are required.
