Large construction and engineering projects have long accounted for the largest share of disputes before international arbitration tribunals. Unsurprisingly, the resolution of major construction disputes is entrusted only to arbitrators who have extensive experience with complex arbitration proceedings. And yet there is an increasing criticism of the lack of efficiency: complex proceedings take too long and (therefore) cost too much. Hence, discussions are currently underway on how to adapt the procedural rules in such a way as to make construction arbitration more efficient. This workshop, however, will address the "other side of the coin", i.e. the question of how parties themselves can within the limits of existing arbitration rules and standards increase the efficiency of arbitration proceedings.
