The construction sector is a primary contributor to global carbon dioxide emissions. While much recent progress has been made in reducing whole lifecycle emissions across the built environment, we still have many challenges to negotiate on the path to net-zero. Architects, developers, engineers and other professions will be heavily involved, but quantity surveyors and cost consultants also have a key role to play in this efficient future. Top quantity surveyors will soon not only be repositories of knowledge on all things price; they will also have excellent insight on material and design considerations that can slash emissions.
