Recently, an interesting "building block" construction method has emerged in the construction industry in Hong Kong. Similar to building LEGO blocks, the "Modular Integrated Construction" (MiC) method employs freestanding volumetric modules, with most of the interior fitting out installed, manufactured off-site and then transported to site for assembly. MiC not only minimises the duration of works on site, but also enhances productivity, site safety, environmental performance and cost-effectiveness. Speakers will talk about the design considerations of MiC technology and share their experience from the construction aspect of MiC with a case study of the Temporary Quarantine Facilities in Penny's Bay.
